ACS NPCRT Launch Event
The American Cancer Society National Prostate Cancer Roundtable officially launched on September 5th, 2024, in Washington, D.C., marking a pivotal moment in the fight against prostate cancer. ACS NPCRT is a national coalition of members organizations established to address the alarming rise in prostate cancer diagnoses, with a particular focus on Black men, who face disproportionate rates of incidence and mortality in the US. The launch brought together dozens of partners to discuss the strategic priorities defined by the 2023 ACS Prostate Cancer Collaborative, explore major questions in prostate cancer, and chart a path forward to catalyze collective action.
The launch event was preceded by the first in-person meeting of the ACS NPCRT’s steering committee, in which its leadership set forth the vision and mission statements for the Roundtable and outlined proposals for initial projects. These projects are informed by the strategic priorities of the ACS NPCRT and aim to provide education, training, and resources to professionals working across the prostate cancer continuum.
Key highlights of the event include comments from ACS NPCRT Chair William Oh, MD, Vice-Chair Yaw Nyame, MD, MS, MBA, and ACS Chair William Dahut, MD. The event program also featured a scientific presentation from Lorelei Mucci, ScD, MPH. Other special guests included Dr. Artie Shelton, prostate cancer survivor and PHEN Ambassador; Mack Brown, ACS Sports Ambassador and Former NFL Runningback; and Chef Daniel Thomas, former Head Chef for the United States Senate Executive Dining Room and the Head Banquet & Catering Chef for the United States Capitol.

The ACS NPCRT wishes to thank its sponsors, Johnson & Johnson, Pfizer, and Bayer for their generous funding of the Roundtable’s launch event and subsequent efforts to improve prostate cancer outcomes and survivorship.
Pfizer has provided funding to ACS in support of the launch of “Change the Odds: Uniting to Improve Cancer Outcomes™,” a new initiative to start creating change where it is most urgently needed: in communities disproportionately impacted by breast and prostate cancer.
