Dr. Ruth Etzioni is a full member in biostatistics at the Fred Hutch Cancer Center where she holds the Rosalie and Harold Rae Brown endowed chair. Her research program focuses on the gap between the data generated by medical studies and the evidence needed to make sound medical decisions. Dr Etzioni’s team was the first to estimate the risk of overdiagnosis associated with prostate cancer screening and she has published extensively on methods for properly estimating overdiagnosis culminating in publications to properly estimate overdiagnosis in breast cancer screening and correct misperceptions in the popular press. She has been principal investigator of the prostate cancer modeling group for the Cancer Intervention and Surveillance Modeling Network (CISNET) since its inception.
